PRESS RELEASE: The Next Step for Tapa Sports and Leisure Center’s Construction – Design Work Begins

This week, AquaTapa OÜ, managed by Capital Mill, and AS Merko Ehitus Eesti signed a construction contract to begin the design phase for the new sports and leisure center in the town of Tapa.

The total land area of the center is 18,676 m², located at Spordi St 8. Construction is to begin in May 2026 and is expected to last approximately 14 months.

According to Marek Hergauk, Head of the General Construction Division at Merko Ehitus Eesti, preliminary work has been completed in conjunction with the client to initiate the design process.

“During the next design phase, we will specify the technical solutions and details of the sports and leisure center to the extent necessary before construction begins. We understand the long-standing anticipation of residents, as well as the military units and allied forces stationed in Tapa, for a swimming pool. We are progressing swiftly with the design so that construction can start as soon as possible,” said Hergauk.

Silver Neemelo, Head of Construction at Capital Mill OÜ, emphasized that the project symbolizes the company’s commitment to regional development.

“The Tapa Sports and Leisure Center project is an important step in improving local infrastructure and a great example of effective cooperation between the public and private sectors,” said Neemelo. “Our goal is to ensure the center is built with high quality, efficiency, and in compliance with rigorous technical and environmental standards.”

According to Maksim Butšenkov, Chairman of the Tapa Municipal Council, the signing of the contract represents significant progress.

“Every day brings us closer to our goal – the completion of the recreation and sports center. I’m confident that cooperation between these two strong companies will deliver great results and ensure quality. Our goal is not just to build a structure, but to create a place that feels comfortable and safe. The center will become a place where people can meet, connect, and feel at home,” said Butšenkov.

Once completed, the Tapa Sports and Leisure Center will offer modern opportunities for sports and recreation. The center will feature an eight-lane swimming pool, a children’s pool, a spa and sauna complex, a gym, and a sports bar with a dining area. The architectural concept emphasizes closeness to nature and community spirit, offering a modern, energy-efficient, and functional environment that is suitable for training, relaxation, and social gatherings. The building’s architect is Hannes Koppel from Asum Arhitektid.
